Summa is an experimental audio project founded by artist and singer-songwriter Patricia Vernhes and music producer Nicolas Vernhes.
The duo utilizes a variety of instruments, including a set of 20 binaurally tuned quartz bowls, synthesizers and analog tape delays, to create auditory experiences inspired by the laws of sound, hallucinatory resonance, and sound therapy.
Their intuitive, instinctive approach is meant to draw listeners to the stillness of the desert they call home.
Nicolas Vernhes is a music producer, mixer and engineer.
He is best know for working with bands such as Animal Collective, Black Dice, Deerhunter, Dirty Projectors, Ought, The Fiery Furnaces, Spoon, Wild Nothing, Cass McCombs, The Silver Jews, Fischerspooner and The War On Drugs among many others during his 25 year career.
He owned and operated a recording studio in Brooklyn, NY, called Rare Book Room from 1995 to 2019. Since then he has been making music and living in the Joshua Tree area of Southern California.
Patricia Vernhes released her first debut solo album, Jaszczurka, under the name Pati Yang, in 1998 by Sony Records. The album was considered the first major release to open an era of electronic pop music in Poland. She worked as a solo artist in London and went on to form the bands Children, Flykkiller, and Patti Yang Group. She also collaborated on over 20 film soundtracks.
For Summa, she provides vocals and utilizes a set of 20 large binaurally tuned quartz bowls.
